"Outback Christmas Trees" - Derby, The Kimberley, AUSTRALIA

Although Australia does not have any native Christmas Trees, I reckon these majestic boab trees provide a fine substitute.  The large seed pods act like natural baubles hanging from the branches and the fiery outback sunset provides the light!

"Spider Walk" - Karijini National Park, Pilbara, AUSTRALIA

This image was captured in the section of Hancock Gorge know as the "Spider Walk" just before reaching Kermit's Pool.  The steep gorge walls are only about a metre apart here and this section can be navigated with both arms and legs spread apart touching either side of the gap - just like a spider.  I found it much easier however just to make my way down the waterfall itself!

"The Descent" - Karijini National Park, Pilbara, AUSTRALIA

This view marks the end point of the Grade 5 hike / scramble down Hancock Gorge.  To progress beyond this area requires a guide or accreditation to abseil on natural surfaces.  The waterfall sliding down into Regan’s Pool looks inviting however it would be highly dangerous to indulge in this plunge! 

"Kermit's Pool" - Karijini National Park, Pilbara, AUSTRALIA

Kermit's Pool is the fantastic reward for swimming and rock hopping through Hancock Gorge.  The colours of the gorge walls and this pool in particular are truly a sight to behold.  The small waterfall entering Kermit's Pool tops off a sensational scene and is a great spot for a refreshing swim on a hot day!  The light patch in the background of this scene is reflected light from the towering cliffs and is where the pool spills down a water chute into Regan's Pool.

"Cathedral Gorge" - Purnululu National Park, The Kimberley, AUSTRALIA

"Goldstone" - Outback Queensland, AUSTRALIA

This fantastic hut sits in a remote location 200km from the nearest town in the vast Queensland outback.  The background mesas that dot the plains draw filmmakers to the area and this hut was built as part of the Goldstone movie set that was filmed here in 2015.    

"Outback Burn" - Outback Queensland, AUSTRALIA

This eerie glow in the pre-sunrise sky was caused by small particles of volcanic ash that had drifted all the way from Tonga where an explosion had occurred months earlier.  

Greg's Big Tree (East Kimberley, Western Australia) One of the great pleasures of my Kimberley adventures was sharing them with my family (wife, kids, mum and dad).  Dad (Greg) is a keen photographer in his own right and this massive boab in the Cockburn Ranges quickly became his favourite location.  So this one is for you Dad!

“Devils Marbles Glow” (Devil's Marbles, Northern Territory) – The Devil's Marbles South of Tennant Creek is an incredible photographic location with an array of large balancing rocks strewn around the desert landscape.  The surrounding area is quite flat allowing for wonderful low warming light to glow on the marbles during sunrise and sunset.

“A Place for Grand Reflection” (Red Centre, Northern Territory) – Ormiston Pound is a jewel of the red centre with great walks winding through the grand scenery of towering cliffs, hardy gum trees and watering holes.   An oasis in the desert - this semi-permanent water hole is a haven for local birdlife small mammals such as rock wallabies.

Kimberley Plains Boabs (Derby, Western Australia) - I absolutely loved this small grove of boab trees a location I have not seen photographed before on a remote edge of the Derby tidal plains. The wonderful afterglow at sunset provided a fairytale feel to this amazing area!

“Guiding Light” (East Kimberley, Western Australia) – For a short period towards the middle of the day, the walls of Echidna Chasm in Purnululu National Park reflect direct light from the cliffs high above onto the lower walls making this this narrow section of Chasm glow intensely.  This effect only lasts for half an hour or so however is incredibly beautiful.  To my surprise we had the whole place to ourselves during the entire light show!
